Founded by an interior designer and architect, MMX STUDIO believes a successful project is built upon open communication and collaboration within the team, including the client. Everyone brings a different perspective to the table and we aim for a transdisciplinary approach to design. A great project team consists of those who share our passion for well designed spaces, respect for the existing site and consideration for the future development. Sharing the same vision streamlines the design process from pre-design to move-in day. And while every project has unique design guidelines, local codes and regulations, MMX STUDIO strives for environmentally responsible projects that maintain a sensitivity to nature and native habitats.
BEHIND THE NAME
Anthony Diaz, Principal
With strong roots and experience in the Southwest and Bay Area, Anthony’s inspiration and design intent focuses on the qualities found in, and of, the natural environment – an honest expression of materiality, context, and circumstance. The design challenge in much of his work has been to seek the balance between building and place, experience and environment. A deep appreciation and understanding of the natural environment continues to guide and inspire Anthony throughout the journey that is called architecture.
Anthony is an Architect with over 20 years of experience in a variety of project types ranging from residential, adaptive reuse of historic structures and educational builds. As a core team member with notable design firms such as Ro Rockett Design, Jensen Architects, Pfau Long Architecture, and assemblageSTUDIO, Anthony’s professional skills cross all phases of a project from planning through design and construction. Anthony holds a Bachelors of Science in Architecture from UNLV, Masters of Architecture from California College of the Arts, and is a licensed Architect in California and Nevada.
Michelle Mullinnix, Founder and Principal
Michelle has strived to develop a practice that explores the human senses and elevates the human experience. She is dedicated to working collaboratively with artisans, builders and craft-people to create unparalleled interior environments that reflect the client’s vision. Nature being her main source of inspiration, Michelle gravitates towards selecting natural materials and furnishings for their tactile and visual ability to reconnect us to the natural world.
Throughout her 20 year career, Michelle has curated numerous commercial tenant improvements, hospitality interiors and residential design - including new construction, renovations and turnkey projects. Her extensive background in commercial and residential projects has helped hone her skillset of working intimately with clients while building a strong rapport with the construction team. Michelle’s experience extends from working for noted Bay Area firms including Garcia Tamjidi Architecture and Design, Geremia Design, and Studios Architecture. Michelle holds a BFA Interior Design degree from California College of the Arts, and is certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).
